What began as a friendly ski outing organized by Steamboat’s Billy Kidd and rodeo legend Larry Mahan has become a celebrated tradition. Now, more than 100 rodeo cowboys and cowgirls compete in a dual slalom course that includes a jump, lassoing, saddling a horse, and racing to the finish. The event wraps with the Stampede—a chaotic mass start to the bottom. A cornerstone of Steamboat’s western heritage, this ski rodeo is a must-see for spectators and après fans alike.
