Arapahoe Basin Kicks Off the 26/27 Season

Eighty Years In. Still First Chair.

The 26/27 winter season is officially underway, and Arapahoe Basin leads the way. The Basin turned on its lifts Wednesday, October 28, becoming the first Ikon Pass destination and the first ski area in Colorado to open this winter. It’s a fitting start to A-Basin’s 80th season.

Cold temps and fresh snow set the stage, and once Black Mountain Express started spinning, skiers and riders made their first turns of the season on High Noon, a blue run. Credit goes to the A-Basin crew who pulled off the opening in a matter of days and gave us the first taste of what’s ahead this winter.

More to Come at A-Basin in the 26-27 Ski Season

Opening day is only the beginning. Here’s what’s ahead at Arapahoe Basin this season:

  • Unlimited access: New for 26/27, both Ikon Pass and Ikon Base Pass holders receive unlimited access to A-Basin.
  • More runs opening: Snowmaking continues, and more of A-Basin’s existing front-side runs will open as conditions allow.
  • Seven days a week: A-Basin will be open every day for the rest of the season.
  • 80th anniversary celebrations: Community events are planned all season long to mark eight decades of The Basin.

Celebrating 80 Winters

For eight decades, A-Basin has been the locally loved, slightly rebellious corner of Colorado skiing. A lot has changed since the first chair, but the spirit of The Legend hasn’t. This season, The Basin is honoring the people and culture that shaped it with celebrations that runs all winter long, including:

  • 80-year-olds ski free
  • $80 lift tickets every Wednesday
  • A December birthday party
  • Prizes and more throughout the season

“Turning 80 is a major milestone, and we just couldn’t wait to get the anniversary season started,” said Alan Henceroth, President & COO of Arapahoe Basin. “We’re still a scrappy ski area that works fast, goes far, and does it together.”
